When choosing your fireplace you need to look beyond design and features as several factors come into play. For you to have the best possible experience, the fireplace’s heating capacity must match the actual heating requirement. If you select a fireplace which is too big for your heating needs, you will need to reduce the air supply which will result in poor combustion so that soot accumulates within the fireplace and chimney. In other words, the fuel and the fireplace are poorly utilised. You need to consider the following aspects:

How many sq. m do you need to heat?
Calculate how many sq. m the fireplace needs to heat and select the appropriate fireplace from the list shown here.

How many sq. m does 1 kW correspond to?
1 kW corresponds to 10-20 sq. m, depending on how well the house is insulated. In most houses/apartments, you can base your calculations on 15 sq. m per kW. It is important that the fireplace is neither too small, nor too big. The combustion is cleaner and more efficient if you fire more in a smaller fireplace than less in a large fireplace.

Holiday home or primary residence?
In most cases, holiday homes require less heating than houses for primary residence. Morsø’s smaller fireplaces are thus often the most suitable for holiday homes. However, it is more the individual need which determines the size of fireplace for your primary residence.

Primary or secondary heating?
If the fireplace is to be used as the primary heating source, i.e. as the most important heating source in the house, you should select a fireplace which matches the size of your home – preferably a convection fireplace which distributes the heat well. However, if the fireplace is to be used as a secondary heating source, e.g. only for heating the living room, a smaller Morsø fireplace will be more appropriate.

House insulation?
There are considerable differences in how well houses are insulated, and in general you should select a larger fireplace for a house which is poorly insulated.

Fuel
Morsø fireplaces with ashpans and grates can, in addition to wood, be fired with coal, energy coke and briquettes in most of the DS-approved fireplaces.

Morsø’s range of fireplaces covers almost all needs, whether it be fireplace type, capacity, form of heating or design.
